you're about to design me a playfully vulcanized shaker kitchen with burnished cabinet pulls. unless, of course...

endearingly demanding,

I am in full design mode. Email me or post online photos of the space and give me the measurements. How do you feel about green construction? Aside from the health and environmental benefits, green materials look and feel fanti'llastic. How much and what kind of stuff do you have? Are you a food geek? Do you want food geek stuff, special racks, a cooktop-centered design? Or will your fridge never have anything but beverages and leftovers?

that sounds good. i don't know anything about green materials. are you thinking of something in particular? i've been wanting to use homasote (http://www.homasote.com/home.html) someplace. maybe as a wall covering in the kitchen. i'd like to use concrete for the counter top --i've even toyed with the idea of casting the sink too, though this is generally not recommended. the floor would be a great place to go 'green'.

there's nothing in the kitchen now except for an old stove -- which we'll replace. and i'm not really a food geek. that doesn't mean i don't love food, it's just been hard trying...it's important to note that Tom, the owner, wants to rent the apartment as an office or turn it into a painting studio. i'll be here at least another year.

in terms of design, anything goes. it's a good opportunity to do something imaginative - which is where i'd like to go. using something like a reference would be good, like musical notation, numerical sequences, Goya engravings, or psychology.

i'll get you some drawings and photos within a week or two

any information you can give me on how the space will be used as well as orientation, exposure, atmospheric conditions (where are the windows? what kind of light/heat does it get? traffic noise a problem?) would be great -- what's it like throughout the year?

my partner wants to use a snapshot of a spot we hike in as a reference for his own place, I suggested he take natural samples -- wet stones, pieces of bark, leaves -- and take them in to have them colormatched for paint, tile, etc.

also, who is going to do what kind of labor? what's your budget?

ultimately, the design you'll be happiest with is one that's driven by utility -- things that work well are a continuing pleasure

I love concrete, myself, I'm a big john lautner fan -- look up lautner's arango house, it's swell
